On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me a Kokako in the Waitakere Ranges

On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me….

…a Kokako in the Waitakere Ranges

Earlier this year our Fonterra Milk for Schools team were delighted to release Aumangea (aka Wai Kikorangi), the Kokako chick the team won in last year’s BACS  Living Awards with help from the Forest and Bird Trust.

This was one of many highlights of the year.

The team at Fonterra Milk for Schools as well as the wider social responsibility team would like to wish all BACS members a happy and healthy festive season and we’re looking forward to continuing to work together for a more sustainable caring future in the New Year.

This Kokako drawing is by local artist Ella Quaint.

On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me 2 turtle doves

Two turtle doves

As I lay in my happy place, looking out the window at two turtle doves in my beautiful garden, I realised that Christmas is the time to relax, rejuvenate and re-energise for the coming year.

This is the moment to follow those two turtle doves, up into the sky, not a care in the world, living for the moment, if only for a few days.

Make the most of your non work time.

Appreciate your family and friends around you and just fly like the turtle doves.

On the fourth day of Christmas I'd love my true love to send me 4 chiller vans

On the fourth day of Christmas I’d love my true love to send me…

…4 chiller vans!

img_2390At KCA we rescue food and other goods for those in need, working to reduce inequality and food insecurity.

We’re ready to provide everything from fresh, frozen and non-perishable food, right through to furniture and whiteware to frontline charities and community organisations.

We’re here to serve our community, to help look after those in need

We rescue and share more than 100 tonnes of food and 60 van loads of recycled donated goods each year, supporting over 20,000 people who need a hand up.

We are an award winner as a north Wellington based charity working behind the scenes, assisting other charities by regularly supplying them so they can concentrate on helping the people coming to them for help.

And then:  You can help us by donating food, goods, money or time – we have around 70 volunteers who regularly help us out, but we always welcome more.

And even just one chiller van would be nice!

As 2016 draws to an end, we wish you the season of warmth, joy and good cheer with season’s greetings and best wishes for 2017.

It’s been a wonderful year for the team at CQ Hotels Wellington winning two awards at the NZSL Awards 2016 for Accessible Service and Accessible Employer plus the 2016 Wellington Gold Award for Team Gold – so not  quite ‘Three French Hens’ but ‘Three awesome awards led by a French man’.

Merry Christmas everyone from Olivier Lacoua (the French man) and all his team!

ANZ Christmas tree with Kiwiana!

This is very clever of my true love as ANZ was the major sponsor of this year’s New Zealand Olympic team.

The Olympics is about a lot more than medals, just like Christmas is about a lot more than presents and time off work – although all are a nice bonus.

You may not be an international athlete, but sometimes as the year’s finish line comes into sight, it can feel like you’ve run just as far and worked just as hard.

From us at ANZ to all of you, may your 12 days of Christmas and beyond be relaxing, safe, happy and shared with those close to you.

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 6 resources for LGBTIQ'ers

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love sent to me…

…six resources for LGBTIQ’ers!

Which will give you and us all a great season and look forward to a fantastic rainbow New Year!

 1. Counselling

OUTLine’s intensive 4-day training course is free of charge to LGBTIQ identifying people who commit to at least one 3-hour shift a month AND attending our monthly upskilling/clinical supervision forum.

2. Resources

Help us, help you. Like many organisations we spend a lot of time trying to raise money and that sometimes distracts us from the real work we need to do.

3. FAQ’s

How do you know if you’re from the Rainbow community? Understanding your sexual or gender orientation is really about understanding your long-term feelings, self-gender identification and attractions. It has nothing to do with whether you have acted on those feelings yet or not.

4. Support

Tips for youth on coming out and supporting those who are in the process. Coming Out is now more than ever a youth issue. Studies indicate that many lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) young people are aware of their sexual orientation/gender identity by the time they are 13.

5. News

So baby, call me! OUTLine produced an eye-catching performance all the way through the Pride Parade route, where colourful roller coaster riders squealed their way through the crowd, and when life had its ups and downs, OUTLine was there.

6. 100% OK campaign

This is a way for allies of the Rainbow Community to simply say “I’m OK” with people being themselves 100% of the time – no matter what your gender identity or sexual orientation. Whatever you identify as – it’s 100% OK. Do it now!

We’re delighted to share all these gifts at Christmas and beyond with whomever would like to know about them!

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me…

…Seven Pukeko a-paddling

This year, as part of our Brewing a Better World sustainability programme, DB Breweries was proud to once again support World Water Day.

DB knows the importance of fresh water, not only is it one of New Zealand’s most valuable natural assets – environmentally, ecologically and recreationally – it is also the most significant ingredient, in terms of volume, in our beers and ciders.

This year DB wanted to focus on our own ‘backyard’ by collaborating with Auckland Council and the Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust to clean up the Otara Creek Reserve – deemed to be one of New Zealand’s most polluted waterways.

Nearly 20% of our Auckland based employees collected over 70 rubbish bags of litter, car tyres and even a shopping trolley, with the aim of removing all rubbish from the banks of the Otara Creek Reserve for the proposed tree planting in the sustainable development of the waterways.

Following such a successful clean up in 2016 we hope to see many more than Seven Pukeko-a paddling in our local creek!

On the eighth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 8 times 100 future leaders

On the eighth day of Christmas my true love sent to me….

…eight times 100 Future Leaders!

Kick Off graphic 2 2016

800 is the number of young women we have had through our free, four year mentoring and leadership skills development programme, YWCA Auckland Future Leaders.

Hey Santa? Can we add these young women to the nice list for that kind of dedication?

We also had mentors, volunteering their time, supporting those young women over the four years so go on Santa, add them too.

These young women come from all walks of life, very shy, not yet confident, just trying to fit in. After the programme they are confident leaders ready to stand out not just fit in.

We have had actresses, lawyers, scientists, counsellors, nurses, youth workers, mothers all come out of YWCA Future Leaders.

Santa, if you’re giving out gifts (we know you are), could you please send us more mentors for the young women that are about to start their YWCA Auckland Future Leaders journey?

Come on Santa, we know you have connections…!

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me 10 Lords leaping into Countdown stores

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me…

Ten Lords are leaping right into their local Countdown store.

It’s not just the Countdown Christmas range that has the Lords cock-a-hoop, it’s the Free Fruit for Kids, which their regal progeny can’t munch enough of.

And don’t mention this to the second day of Christmas, but we’ve just seen the Partridge and her kids at Countdown Napier, picking pears right out of the free fruit basket.

(Mrs Partridge was overheard saying “This just makes my life sooo much easier; I just don’t have the time this Xmas to hang around in a pear tree.).
